Ultimate Patty Melt with Secret Sauce


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  3. While onions cook, form ground beef into 4 patties and season with salt and pepper.
  4. In a separate skillet, cook patties over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Spread secret sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard) on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  6. On the non-sauce side of two slices, layer a patty, caramelized onions, and a slice of Swiss cheese.
  7. Top with remaining bread slices, sauce side down.
  8. Melt remaining butter in the skillet and grill the sandwiches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  9. Slice in half and serve hot.

Notes

  • Feel free to add other toppings like pickles or tomatoes.
  • For a spicier version, add jalapeños to the mix.
