A delightful treat that combines the sweetness of ripe pears with warm spices, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then add brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring until smooth and bubbling. Pour into the prepared cake pan.
- Arrange the sliced pears over the caramel in the pan, overlapping slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the cake batter over the arranged pears in the pan, spreading gently.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
- Slice and serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil instead of butter.
- For gluten-free, replace all-purpose flour with almond flour.
- Consider using a sugar substitute like stevia to reduce sugar content.
- Let the cake sit for a few hours before serving for the best flavor.
