Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then add brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring until smooth and bubbling. Pour into the prepared cake pan.
  3. Arrange the sliced pears over the caramel in the pan, overlapping slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  5. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the cake batter over the arranged pears in the pan, spreading gently.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
