Homemade Pretzel Hot Dog Buns are soft, chewy, and perfect for your favorite sausages.
Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add brown sugar, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it. Let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a bun and let them rest for 15 minutes.
- In a pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each bun for 30 seconds.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet and brush with egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- These buns are best served fresh.
- You can store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
