Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and molasses to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk until combined.
  6. Fold in walnuts if using.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
