General Tso’s Cauliflower

Description

A vegetarian twist on the classic General Tso’s chicken, using cauliflower as the main ingredient.


Ingredients

  • 1 head of cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cauliflower by cutting it into florets.
  2. Dredge the cauliflower in cornstarch until well coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  4. Fry the cauliflower in batches until golden brown and crispy.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Remove cauliflower from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a large skillet, heat the sauce mixture until it begins to simmer.
  8. Add the fried cauliflower to the skillet and toss to coat.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control spice level.
  • For extra crunch, double fry the cauliflower.
