  • Author: Chef Emma
  • Total Time: 6 to 8 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 4 cups
  • Diet: Vegan

Description

A delightful treat that combines the rich flavors of ripe plums with warm spices, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to desserts.

Ingredients

  • Ripe plums – 2 lbs (about 900 grams), pitted and chopped
  • Brown sugar – 1 cup (200 grams)
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ground cloves – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons (freshly squeezed)
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash the ripe plums thoroughly, cut them in half, remove the pits, and chop them into small pieces.
  2. In your crockpot, add the chopped plums, brown sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Stir until well combined.
  3. Cover the crockpot and set it to low heat. Let it cook for about 6 to 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once thick and spreadable, use an immersion blender to puree until smooth. Return to the crockpot and cook uncovered for an additional 1 to 2 hours to thicken.

Notes

  • Use honey or maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a natural sweetener.
  • For a sugar-free option, consider using a sugar substitute like stevia.
  • Feel free to swap out spices based on your taste; cardamom or ginger can add a unique twist.
