Description
A delightful treat that combines the rich flavors of ripe plums with warm spices, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to desserts.
Ingredients
- Ripe plums – 2 lbs (about 900 grams), pitted and chopped
- Brown sugar – 1 cup (200 grams)
- Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cloves – 1/4 teaspoon
- Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons (freshly squeezed)
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Wash the ripe plums thoroughly, cut them in half, remove the pits, and chop them into small pieces.
- In your crockpot, add the chopped plums, brown sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Stir until well combined.
- Cover the crockpot and set it to low heat. Let it cook for about 6 to 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Once thick and spreadable, use an immersion blender to puree until smooth. Return to the crockpot and cook uncovered for an additional 1 to 2 hours to thicken.
Notes
- Use honey or maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a natural sweetener.
- For a sugar-free option, consider using a sugar substitute like stevia.
- Feel free to swap out spices based on your taste; cardamom or ginger can add a unique twist.
