Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and add sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix in flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. Divide the dough into equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope.
  7. Shape the ropes into twists.
  8. In a pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
  9. Boil each pretzel twist for 30 seconds, then remove and drain.
  10. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
