Description

A rich and decadent chocolate fudge cake topped with creamy salted caramel buttercream.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in boiling water until well combined.
  6. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
  10. Add powdered sugar and caramel sauce, mixing until smooth.
  11. Once cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Notes

  • Store cake in an airtight container.
  • Use homemade or store-bought caramel sauce.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of sea salt on top of the frosting.
