Description

These are festive cookies shaped like candy canes, perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract to the butter mixture, and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix until combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half. Color one half with red food coloring.
  7. Take small pieces of each color and roll them into ropes.
  8. Twist the red and white ropes together and shape them into candy canes.
  9. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake for 9-11 minutes until set.
  11. Let cool, then sprinkle with crushed candy canes.

Notes

  • Store cookies in an airtight container.
  • For a stronger peppermint flavor, increase peppermint extract.
  • Cookies can be decorated with additional icing if desired.
