- 3–4 pounds beef brisket
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the brisket by trimming excess fat.
- Season the meat with a mixture of brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Sauté the sliced onion in a skillet until softened, then add minced garlic.
- Combine BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water in a bowl.
- Layer the sautéed onion and garlic in the slow cooker, place the brisket on top, and pour the BBQ sauce mixture over it.
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours until tender.
- Let the brisket rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Notes
- For lower sodium, use low-sodium BBQ sauce or broth.
- Substitute brown sugar with honey or a sugar substitute.
- Use chuck roast if brisket is unavailable.
- Add jalapeños or hot sauce for extra spice.
